Selective Laser Sintering and running faster

Cameron Kippen writes on his blog about a interesting use for SLS. Kippen is a writer and
podologist from Charles Sturt University, Australia. Running shoes are currently not now allowed to give any mechanical advantage to a runner. However he argues that with the case of double amputee who recently almost qualified for the Olympics, this might change and some folks are already working in that area. Kippen has a page called Feet and the Olympics. The final point he makes involves SLS.

Information is scant for obvious reason but one of the main projects will involve the use of selective laser sintering to custom sprint spikes for athletes. By tuning the longitudinal bending stiffness characteristics of sprint spikes to the physical characteristics of the athlete it is hoped to increase mechanical energy at the ankle
